It was produced by the brilliant Narada Michael Walden and written by the band Boy Meets Girl who had their own hit "Waiting for a star to Fall". This band also wrote "I Wanna Dance With Somebody Who Loves Me" for Whitney's second album. At first "How Will I Know" was meant for Janet Jackson.
