  • Song Info : 'All The Man That I Need' has become a drag queen standard. Whitney's ninth US No. 1 single was written by Dean Pitchford and Michael Gore (Gore also wrote the soundtrack to the film "Fame) and produced by the brilliant Narada Michael Walden. Narada Michael Walden started out as a drummer but became a first-rate producer with a high-tech, synthesizer-heavy sound. He really took a ho-hum tune (originally sung by Sister Sledge) and turned it into a riveting pop aria with a sax solo by Kenny G. At a listening party for the album "I'm Your Baby Tonight", the album this song is from, Luther Vandross went up to Pitchford and Gore and said "great song, but I've heard it before". They reminded him that he had sang backup on the original Sister Sledge version.
