In 1991, Whitney made good use of her celebrity by raising a great deal of money for charity. In January, she was invited to sing the National Anthem at SuperBowl XXV, in Tampa, Florida. Her moving rendition is a definitive version of the uplifting hymn, and it was released as a single due to public demand. All profits ($ 500 000) were given to the American Red Cross, to benefit Gulf War veterans and their families.
