Whitney Gives 'Public' Performance
LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - One of America's biggest pop stars will join a potential future pop star on the season finale of "Boston Public."
Whitney Houston will take her first acting role in several years when she guest-stars as herself on the FOX series. A Winslow High student writes her a 10-page letter asking if she'll
be his prom date, and to everyone's surprise, she accepts.
Houston will also work with former "American Idol" finalist Tamyra Gray, who's wrapping up her recurring role as the shy but talented student Aisha. She's set to sing at the prom, but when she hears Houston -- her idol -- will be there, she gets stage fright.
Houston does her best to help Aisha get over her nerves, giving an unplanned performance of "Try It on My Own," her latest single.
A six-time Grammy winner, Whitney Houston has sold more than 120 million albums in her career. Her acting credits include "The Bodyguard," "Waiting to Exhale" and, most recently, ABC's 1997 musical "Cinderella."
"Boston Public" is an American drama based on the lives of students and faculty at a High School based in Boston and tackles issues such as drug abuse, teenage pregnancy and racism. Guest celebrities are a fairly common feature to the series.
The "Boston Public" season finale is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET Monday, May 12.

Whitney shifts into emotional overdrive
[from New York Daily News] -
Whitney Houston was so overcome with emotion after performing
here Thursday night (April 3) that she collapsed in sobs backstage and had to be comforted by her husband, Bobby Brown.
The troubled diva - radiant and healthier-looking than she has been in a while - became
misty-eyed after singing "I Will Always Love You" at a benefit dinner in the New
York Sheraton. She dedicated the song to her father, John Houston, who died two months
ago.
Houston was the surprise performer at the Rev. Al Sharpton's Keepers of the
Dream Awards dinner, where honorees included attorney Johnnie Cochran, (who
Sharpton affectionately called "Superman"), Democratic Massachusetts State Sen. Dianne
Wilkerson, Anheuser-Busch exec Johnny L. Furr and California Dem chieftain Art
Torres.
"I'm so full tonight," Whitney told the crowd, which gave her a rousing
standing ovation. "Today was the first time I've been back since my father died. I
sat with my brother today and we just cried."
Houston began tearing up after a song from her new album, "Just Whitney," and
was visibly moved as she left the stage with an assistant who struggled to carry the train
of her body-hugging dress.
The other highlight of the evening was Sharpton's 16-year-old daughter Dominique
singing "The Wind Beneath My Wings." Papa Sharpton also honored Arista Records
CEO Antonio (L.A.) Reid and top music attorney Joel Katz.
