CAREER, AS FANS RALLY 'ROUND!
ABC "Primetime Live" interview and "Good Morning America"
street-date mini-concert broadcast kick off 205,000 unit first week sales feat and
Top 10 debut!!!
(December 18, 2002 - New York, NY) Arista recording artist Whitney Houston's
brand new album JUST WHITNEY... (in-store December 10th) has won
the highest first-week sales of her career with a Soundscan total in
excess of 205,000 units this past week, entering the Billboard 200 Album
chart at #9 and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart at #3, it was announced
today by Antonio "L.A." Reid, President and CEO, Arista Records. Bolstered
by phenomenal reaction to her recent appearance on ABC's "Primetime
Live" with Diane Sawyer and a live street-date performance of four songs taped
outside New York's Lincoln Center and broadcast on ABC's "Good Morning
America," including the album's current hit single, "One Of
Those Days," Whitney has re-established her sales base in a big way.
"Whitney's core following of loyal fans have rallied behind her in
a way that underscores a profound love affair with their favorite singer,"
said Mr. Reid. "Their support of Whitney has resulted in another
crowning achievement in a career already filled with amazing accomplishments. I
am thrilled that JUST WHITNEY... is an album that has more than fulfilled
expectations of fans all over the world."
Whitney's unprecedented one-hour interview on ABC's "Primetime Live"
(broadcast on Wednesday night, December 4th) was the highest-rated show
of the evening, pulling in more than 24 million viewers. Four days later,
more than 5,000 fans braved frigid temperatures to attend the Sunday
afternoon outdoor mini-concert taping at Lincoln Center, mc'd by "Good
Morning America" co-anchor Diane Sawyer. Whitney's four-song set
was broadcast on "GMA" on Tuesday, December 10th, the first day
that JUST WHITNEY... went on sale.
Whitney's previous first week highest sales debuts during the
Soundscan era (which began in 1991) include 1995's Waiting To Exhale
motion picture soundtrack (177,000 copies), 2000's Greatest Hits
(158,000 copies), 1992's The Bodyguard soundtrack (145,000 copies), and
1998's My Love Is Your Love (123,000). At the same time, news has
poured in that JUST WHITNEY... shipped gold in France, Italy, Switzerland, and
Brazil and has sold over a million units internationally.

New York concert - Whitney Wows 'Em
[From New York Daily News] -Whitney still hits a high note -
By ELIZABETH HAYS and BILL HUTCHINSON,
DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITERS
She was nearly an hour late and stumbled a little on one song, but Whitney Houston belted out a performance yesterday in Lincoln Center Plaza that signaled she still has some dynamite diva in her.
The afternoon miniconcert for about 3,000 people was Houston's first live public performance in the United States in 15 months and marked a giant step in her comeback from her hazy days of drugs.
"I love you, each and every one of you. I truly do," Houston said as she took the stage blowing kisses to the adoring crowd.
The Grammy Award-winner appeared much healthier than in September 2001, when she last performed in the United States looking like a famine victim during a Michael Jackson tribute at Madison Square Garden.
Yesterday, the 39-year-old entertainer wore form-fitting designer jeans and a floor-length suede coat over a sheer white turtleneck top. Her hair was in curls with red highlights, and she beamed smiles at fans - some of whom had waited for hours to hear her.
Houston showed up 50 minutes late because she got caught in traffic, her spokeswoman said. But once on stage, she proved she hadn't lost the magic that made her a platinum-selling songbird.
She flawlessly performed two songs from her new album, titled "Just Whitney." The performance will air tomorrow on ABC's "Good Morning America." Houston received deafening rounds of applause after singing "One of Those Days" and "Tell Me No."
Her only miscue came when the 35-member choir from Talent Unlimited High School on W. 68th St. joined her in a gospel rendition of "Do You Hear What I Hear?"
After a few verses, Houston suddenly shouted, "Stop! Stop! We're going to start this again." Then she and the choir took it from the top and ended up hitting all the right notes, and had the crowd singing along.
It marked Houston's first public appearance since her interview on ABC's "PrimeTime Live" last week. Houston admitted to using a smorgasbord of illegal drugs and hinted that she had nearly died from overdoses.

Collaborations
According to an article published today by Billboard Magazine, ' a number of non-album projects will soon pair Houston with other hot artists. [Arista Records president]
Reid is working on a "One of Those Days" remix with Nelly, while Houston is recording a song with Brandy. Neither track is slated to be on the new album, although Reid says of the Brandy pairing, "When it's finished, I'll find a home for it." Reid is also considering using Santana on a single version of another album track, the rock-tinged "Tell Me No." '

Primetime Interview!
From Billboard.com - Dec. 3 - Whitney Houston Acknowledges Drug Abuse -
Whitney Houston admits she's abused drugs in the past, but says she's gotten beyond that experience through prayer. The Grammy-winning singer also discusses the pressures of stardom and her decade-long marriage to fellow performer Bobby Brown in an interview with Diane Sawyer on "Primetime," scheduled to air at 9 p.m. EST tomorrow (Dec. 4) on ABC.
When Sawyer asks her, "Is it alcohol? Is it marijuana? Is it cocaine? Is it pills?" Houston responds, "It has been at times."
"All?" Sawyer asks. "At times," Houston says. "Uh-hm."
The 39-year-old concedes she's "addicted to a few things." "Making love," Houston says. "I don't like to think of myself addicted. I like to think ... I had a bad habit ... which can be broken."
Houston's shockingly thin frame at last year's Michael Jackson tribute sparked reports that she was ill, which she vehemently denies. She also says she's not anorexic or bulimic. "Let's get that straight. I am not sick. OK?" she says. "I've always been a thin girl. I am not going to be fat, ever. Let's get that straight. Whitney is not going to be fat, ever."
Brown also appears in the interview, and says he's frequently used marijuana because he's been diagnosed as bipolar. The 33-year-old was arrested last month in Atlanta on drug and traffic charges. "Me and drugs. We're not friends. We're not friends at all," Brown says. "I'm a very high-strung person. ... [Marijuana] seems to help me ... from going up and down."
Houston says she's done partying now, and has found strength through daily prayer. Her new Arista album, "Just Whitney," is due Dec. 10. "I'm not the strongest every day, but I'm not the weakest, either," she says. "And I won't break."
thanks Antonio
